Home, at last!

Yesterday mom said goodbye to room 220 at Northport DCH. On their way home, Dad kept asking mom if she was ok. Mom said she was fine, just looking at everything along the way. Everything she hadn't seen since before November 14, things she truly hadn't seen since before November 5 (day she started having severe back pain). Mom enjoyed the scenery all the way home. When mom arrived home, she had several things waiting on her. Dad's creations. The picture below is her chair. Dad put it on blocks so she could get up and down easily. He even covered the blocks with trash bags to keep the carpet clean. :)

Another surprise was waiting in the bedroom. Dad pulled a cart from his shop and filled it with some of mom's medical supplies. Crafty, huh?

Even though mom's bedroom looks similar to a hospital room, it sure doesn't feel that way to her. She gets to sleep in her own bed in her own bedroom in her own house. Ahhhh, an answered prayer!

Dad also built and installed a wheelchair ramp. Needless to say, he was more than ready for her homecoming!

Mom had taken a nap and was ready for our visit. A couple of people had sent over food, which was so nice. Mom sat in her jacked up chair talking with us and watching her grandchildren run a muck. The phone was ringing off the hook with folks checking on her and dad. The evening was perfect!

Home Health made their first visit yesterday and will continue to make visits twice a week. Mom gets two daily doses of antibiotic injected into the tube in her chest. Dad has been taught how to inject the antibiotic which has to be injected over a period of 8 minutes. Dad is also responsible for the cleaning and dressing of the incisions on her feet. This, too, has to be done twice a day. Mom's blood sugar has to be checked throughout the day. The physical therapist has given her exercises to do daily. I am uncertain of any scheduled physical therapy. Mom has a whole bag full of medications to take, but, hopefully, this will only be temporary. She, of course, will be followed by several physicians. I do know Dr. White (infectious disease) certainly will be monitoring her along the way and will be checking her at the end of her antibiotics (February 14) to make certain the infection is gone.

We still need lots of prayers for comfort, rest, and an uncomplicated recovery. You guys haven't failed me yet, so keep praying. Thanks so much for your thoughts and your prayers. Much love to each of you! :)
